I don’t watch a lot of television as I don’t find a lot of shows to be interesting enough to hold my attention. Could be the mild A.D.D., or the simple lack of wit smothering today’s shows. Who knows. Either way, the t.v. is sometimes left on as backlighting or background noise. The other day, with the tv sufficing as such, I happened to see a commercial that was entirely entertaining throughout. So much in that I actually watch t.v. now to see the commercial when it airs at random.

I’m a big car guy…I’ve been obsessed with them since I was 3 or 4, and I’m still equally as obsessed as they are a passion and inspiration for financial success. Kia has never been an automaker I’m a fan of as I like cars with class, style, originality, sleek lines, and…speed. Lots of speed. Kia pretty much lacks all of the above, and they always have. However, they have recently produced a vehicle that I am oddly intrigued by…the Kia Soul. The vehicle itself sucks balls. It’s essentially a Scion or other such similar box-looking waste of auto engineering. It’s not attractive. It’s not fast. It’s not even original. But Kia’s hit dead on in one area of the Soul – its marketing campaign. It features ghetto hamsters taking on human form, and the commercial is centered by the song, The Choice is Yours by Black Sheep. Brilliant. It’s entirely brilliant.

Ghetto Hamsters

I’m not sure why, but I’ve always been more critical about commercials than I have actual t.v. shows or movies. I think it’s because the amounts of money that go into marketing campaigns is so excessively ridiculous that I’ve never been able to justify it with the garbage I’ve seen in 30 second segments. Take for instance the Castrol motor oil commercial discussing sludge and the need to worry about it. It’s posted below. If you’ve seen it already, you know that it’s absolutely fucking retarded. It’s not funny. It’s aired far too often. And no one gives a fuck. Not about the characters in the ad, not about the car, and not about Castrol. I will never buy anything from Castrol for the rest of my life, simply because of the monstrosity of a failure of a commercial depicted in that shithole of an advertising ploy. It’s…garbage. And in comparison, Kia…Kia of all companies, airs a completely aesthetically, audiologically, and graphically brilliant ad to put all others in the history of…ever, to shame. Congratulations, Kia Soul marketing team. You’ve sucked me back into t.v. in hopes that I’m able to watch your creation. And, furthermore, though I hate Kia as an automaker, I would almost consider buying a Soul JUST because of the commercial. Find another marketing campaign that effective.

…You won’t.

It’s sad that I find myself digging through old photographs and memories, otherwise forgotten about in boxes in my closet, late on a Saturday night. I have an excuse, though. I’m moving in a couple weeks and trying to get a head start? Whatever, I’m lame and my weekends are boring. Either way, I’m no photographer, but I thought others would appreciate some of these. So I’ve posted a few.
